Tennessee American Legion Baseball is making a strong surge in teams in 2018. We realized for ALB to grow we needed to go back to the basics and start fresh with a new and younger group of players so starting in 2018 ALB of Tennessee will add 15u teams throughout the state. We have already added 6 new Teams with more coming. The excitement to this new approach has sparked an increase in the 17u division also. American Legion Baseball is a national institution, having thrived through a world war, several national tragedies, and times of great prosperity as well as great despair. The league still stands behind the traditional values upon which it was founded in 1925. American Legion Baseball has taught hundreds of thousands of young Americans the importance of sportsmanship, good health and active citizenship. The program is also a promoter of equality, making teammates out of young athletes regardless of their income levels or social standings. American Legion Baseball has been, and continues to be a stepping stone to manhood for millions of young men who have gone on to serve their country or community, raise families or play the sport at the highest level.
In keeping with this high tradition, American Legion Post 173 and Warren County High School is proud to announce the forming of two American Legion Baseball teams. There will be a 15 year old team and a 17 year old team.
At our monthly meeting on January 4, 2018, the membership voted to support the program. Present at the meeting, in addition to our membership, was American Legion Baseball Department of Tennessee Chairman, Robert Kohls, Trice Powers WCHS head baseball coach, David Lee WCHS assistant baseball coach and Brent Whitlock WCHS assistant baseball coach.
In order for us to accomplish this endeavor we are asking the public to assist us with donations. It cost about $350.00 per player for uniforms and equipment plus the cost of umpires and insurance. The families of most players can help with this cost; however there are always some that cannot. We are looking for corporate sponsors and individuals wishing to donate. Anyone wishing to help should contact American Legion Post 173 at PO Box 173, McMinnville, TN 37111.
Let’s work together and make this a great success for our youth and the community.
